Insights into the Antimicrobial Potential of Acorn Extracts (Quercus ilex and Quercus suber)

Acorns, frequently left uncollected in the fields, have been a part of traditional medicine different cultures. Among properties associated with them, their antimicrobial potential is particular importance. However, this characterization has long superficial and not ventured into other topics such as biofilm inhibition. Thus, current work aimed to characterize antibiofilm an array phenolic rich extracts attained from acorns, two acorn varieties Q. ilex suber, considering fruit shell separately, fresh after heat-treating acorns aid shelling process. To accomplish this, extracts’ capacity inhibit microorganisms was evaluated, minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) determined, time-death curves were drawn whenever MBC found most effective drawn. The overall results showed that Gram-positive susceptible out all tested, being overall, exhibiting effect against S. aureus, B. cereus L. monocytogenes well capable inhibiting formation via aureus strains. demonstrated extracts, particularly pose interesting activity which could be exploited food, cosmetic pharmaceutical applications.
